LM35 Temperature Sensors

The LM35 is an integrated analog temperature sensor that provides an output directly proportional to the temperature in degrees Celsius. It offers accurate temperature measurements without the need for external calibration or trimming. With its low output impedance, linear response, and precise calibration, the LM35 simplifies integration with readout or control circuits.

No additional components are required to interface the LM35 with an ADC, as its output is linear at a rate of 10mV per degree Celsius. It can be directly connected to any 10-bit or 12-bit ADC. However, for 8-bit ADCs like the ADC0808 or ADC0804, an amplifier is needed to detect temperature changes as small as 1°C.

The LM35 can also be easily interfaced with an Arduino, and its temperature output can be used with a comparator circuit for over-temperature detection or connected to a relay for temperature control applications.

The LM35 operates across a wide temperature range, from −55°C to 150°C, while the LM35C version is rated for −40°C to 110°C, with improved accuracy in the lower temperature range. The LM35 series is available in hermetic TO-Transistor packages, while the LM35C, LM35CA, and LM35D versions come in plastic TO-92 packages. The LM35D is also available in an 8-lead surface-mount small-outline package or a plastic TO-220 package.
